Continue shoppingBabies and toddlers can get chapped lips just as easily as adults, especially in dry weather or with frequent mouth-breathing — but they need a formula that's safe if accidentally ingested. Popees' lip balms are made with food-safe, mild ingredients.
Ingestion-safe formulation
Since young children frequently put hands and objects near or in their mouths, any lip balm used should be formulated to be safe if swallowed in small amounts — check this is explicitly stated.
Avoid menthol and strong flavours
Adult lip balms often contain menthol or camphor for a cooling sensation, which can be too strong or even irritating for a young child's sensitive lips.
Application frequency.
A light layer applied 2–3 times a day, and before sun exposure, generally manages chapped lips better than one heavy application, which can feel sticky and get wiped off quickly.
Is it safe if my baby accidentally swallows some lip balm?
Baby-specific lip balms are formulated with food-safe ingredients precisely because of this risk, but always check the product label and consult a doctor if you have concerns about a specific ingredient.
What ingredients should be avoided in a baby lip balm?
Menthol, camphor and strong added flavours are best avoided, since they can be too intense or irritating for a young child's lips.
How often should lip balm be applied?
2–3 times daily, or before sun or wind exposure, generally manages dryness better than a single heavy application.
Can lip balm help with lip-licking related chapping?
It can soothe symptoms, but frequent lip-licking often needs the underlying habit addressed too, since saliva itself can worsen chapping over time.
We formulate our lip balms to be food-safe as a baseline requirement, not an optional claim.
